Material Science for S5 Mech students of MBC Peermade..
MBC Peermade has five depts. In the order in which the have been established in the college, it goes like this,
Computer Science, Eletronics and Communications, Electrical and Electronics, Applied Electronics and Instrumentaton and finally Mechanical Engineering. The college is affifliated to the MG University, comprising of colleges in Ernakulam, Kottayam, Alleppey and Pathanamthitta districts. Kerala University, Calicut Uty, Cochin Uty of Science and Technology and Kannur Uty are the other universities in Kerala.
Material Science is an interesting subject. Prof George Easaw will be teaching the subject. He will be using the electronic and audio video aids in the teaching process. The students are expected to come prepared for the classes the previous day itself by going through some ofn the reading pasages and submitting assignments at the right time by putting individual efforts. I can assure you that I shall try my level best to clear all your doubts in the area. An added attarction this year will be the inclusion of teaching materials from the MIT site on Manufacturing Processes.
The effective use of the Internet and the acceptance that the Internet is an educational medium as much as it is an information and entertainment medium , will be enforced by the discussions and assignments to be given in the class.
The aim of the subject will be to teach the student the various proceses in the manufacturing processes, either by removing materials ( for eg. turning, drillling etc.) or by casting/moulding materials or by building materials from scratch using the layer method ( rapid prototyping).
The students are encouraged to ask questions and doubts during the class or outside the classroom. The saying says, "There is nothing like a foolish question, only a foolish answer !!" So students, do not feel shy to ask any question, the onus is on me to give you the right answers.
Let us have a healthy interacton in this subject.
Sincerely,
Dr George Easaw
